This mornings planetary alignment. I arrived pretty early, around 4 AM. This was to give me time to set up before the International Space Station flew through the alignment at 4:23 AM. I set up two cameras. One with a 17mm lens and the other with a 24mm lens. Both were tilt-shift lenses that allowed me to shift upward to show more sky and less water. I kept looking at my watch to make sure I didn’t miss the ISS. When it was passing through I was taking 10 second exposures to show it’s light reflection trail. After that worked out well I had to wait a bit longer for Mercury to rise up and get into the photo. The first image in the gallery was taken at 4:54 AM and does include Mercury. It’s probably not seen in this post, but in the full resolution image you can see Mercury buried in the glow of the sun. This would in fact be my first success at capturing light from Mercury. After I capture the images I wanted I just stayed and enjoyed the light show between the sun, sky and water. Absolutely beautiful.
